A South Bend man is in custody in connection to a string of robberies, including one on the IU South Bend campus last week.
Police filed five Level 3 Felony armed robbery charges against Fred Brand on Nov. 17. Late on Nov. 22, the South Bend Police Strategic Focus Unit said in a statement that Brand was a suspect in an armed robbery that took place that morning outside of Northside Hall.
At 6:45 a.m. on Nov. 22, a campus employee was approached by a male displaying a firearm. The armed man took a cell phone from the victim and fled west.
