Flu shots available at Health & Wellness Center

Flu shots are available now at various times at the IU South Bend Health & Wellness Center, on the first floor of the Student Activity Center. The dates and times flu shots are available for all IUSB students, staff, and faculty as well as the community are:

Wednesday, October 11 — 7:30am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:30pm

Friday, October 13 — 9:00am-3:00pm

Wednesday, October 18 — 8:00am-Noon

Wednesday, October 25 — 8:00am-Noon

Tuesday, November 7 — 9:00am- 3:00pm

Wednesday, November 8 — 7:30am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:30pm

Friday, November 10 — 9:00am-3:00pm

For IUSB employees who have IU insurance, they must bring their IUSB employee identification along with their insurance card for a free flu shot. The price of the flu shot is $25 for students and community. Students must bring their Crimson Card. The Health and Wellness Center will provide a receipt for all who need to submit for insurance reimbursement. The center can charge student bursar accounts or take credit/debit, cash, or check. Veterans Book Club to discuss “Anatomy of a Soldier”

Join the IU South Bend Veterans Book Club for their next meeting on Wednesday Nov 1, 5:30 in room 301 in the Schurz Library.
This meeting will focus on the book “Anatomy of a Soldier” by Harry Parker. This 2016 book tells the story of a soldier seriously injured by an IED from the perspective of inanimate objects that play a part in the story. Parker draws heavily on his own experience being injured in Afghanistan.

The book club is open to veterans, their families and others on campus and in the community interested in reading and discussing good books.

 

Apply now to study abroad

Students looking to study abroad are encouraged to apply for trips through IU South Bend. The upcoming trips to Sweden, Costa Rica, Belize, and Montreal & Ottawa all have an application deadline of November 30.

The trips to Costa Rica and Belize will happen during spring break. The trip to Montreal & Ottawa will travel May 4 through 13. The Sweden trip will happen May 18 through 26.

Students with strong academic records are eligible to win $500 scholarships to help with trip costs. Financial aid is also available to students who need additional support.

“The Things They Carried” on display at Schurz

The Schurz Library is hosting an exhibit that showcases personal items used by students, alumni, and staff & faculty and their family members who served in the military.

“The Things They Carried: Sequences” showcases personal objects that have great meaning of the soldiers and sailors, such as a “woobie,” a poncho liner that beloved by US Army paratroopers. The exhibit also shows the history of head gear from World War I to the Second Gulf War.

The exhibit runs through October 31. It is free and open to all members of the campus and community.
