A windy day in South Bend brought more than just the warm weather. Robert Morris University of Chicago, Illinois, blew into town for IU South Bend’s first CCAC matchup.

Coming back from a warm and eventful spring break trip to Florida for the team’s first 10 games of the new season, they were 5-5 on the season.Robert Morris entered the doubleheader 2-10.

It was a rocky start for the Titans and for right handed starter Nichole Kirkpatrick as Robert Morris scored two runs in the first inning. A pitching change came just after one out and in came right handed reliever Delaney Cole to keep the Eagles at bay. IUSB got on the board after an RBI double into deep right field by third basemen Brittany Probasco to send in left fielder #7 Brooke Miller. Probasco would score on a sacrifice fly by catcher Taylor Long.

IUSB kept Robert Morris scoreless through two more innings while the Titans scored four more runs through the third and fourth innings.

After only allowing one run to the Eagles in the seventh, the Titans won the first game 6-3. IUSB improved to 6-5 on the season, with a 1-0 record in the CCAC.

The second game was a little more aggressive, as the Eagles did not want to be swept by the Titans. Junior left handed pitcher Philny Llewellyn stepped on the mound for the Titans.

An error by Probasco helped Robert Morris score three unearned runs. In the bottom of the inning, the designated hitter Brooke Boss was on second after a deep hit to right field. She scored on an RBI single by McCarty.

Robert Morris scored two more in the top of the third after two throwing errors by Maddy Hovious. In the fifth inning, the Eagles continued to soar past the Titans, scoring two more after a fielding error by second basemen Kat Witting caused a runner to be safe, and another run to be tacked on.

The Titans only scored two more runs in the game, both coming in the bottom of the sixth. Hovious singled into shallow right field, followed by McCarty with a double to deep left field sending Hovious in for an RBI. Miller singled up the middle to send McCarty in for the final Titan run.

IUSB lost to the Eagles 7-3. The Titans are now 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the CCAC.
