One IU South Bend fraternity is working to make a difference in South Bend.
Don’t Stop the Pasta is the next event to be put on by Alpha Sigma Phi. The fundraiser dinner will benefit La Casa De Amistad, according to the fraternity’s secretary, Jacob Matzinger.
La Casa De Amistad is a community center located on the west side of the city that focuses on reaching out to the local Hispanic youth through a variety of leadership programs.
“Heard of Barbici’s? It’s kind of like that,” Matzinger said. A variety of pastas and garlic bread will be served for dinner and there will be cookies for dessert. A $10 ticket ahead of time or at the door will get you all the pasta your heart desires.
This isn’t the first benefit event for the six students of this fraternity. This school year alone, the group has put on four events, including last week’s “speed friending.”
While the turnout wasn’t the best for the last event, Matzinger said participants had a good time. “We could have had more people, but everyone enjoyed it who came,” he said.
He said better turnout is the goal for the dinner. The six members invited at least ten people each, but more than 100 are expected to attend.
Matzinger said even though he wasn’t part of last year’s dinner, he heard about its success and hopes it is the same story this year.
You can attend the dinner on Saturday, March 4 in The Grill at 7 p.m.
