Civil Rights Heritage Center presents “Michiana Memory: South Bend’s Own Voices”
The Civil Rights Heritage Center, in conjunction with the St. Joseph County Public Library and the IU South Bend Archives, will be hosting “Michiana Memory: South Bend’s Own Voices” at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24. This free event will take place at the Civil Rights Heritage Center, located at 1040 W. Washington Street in South Bend.
Part of the Michiana Memory grant, this event offers the community the opportunity to hear the experiences of some who have called South Bend their home for decades, and have witnessed its transformations, according to the Daily Titan newsletter.
This event also serves as an official launch of two major ways to share more of South Bend’s voices.
Selections of the Oral History Collection of the Civil Rights Heritage Center at the Indiana University South Bend Archives will officially be online through Michiana Memory for the first time. Computers will be on hand for guests to peruse the narrators and hear their stories.
Also, this event serves as the official debut of the first episode of the Civil Rights Heritage Center’s “South Bend’s Own Voices” podcast series featuring more stories from the Oral History Collection.
