Preface Report: Titan news in brief

Conferences coming early this year

Two conferences will be happening a little earlier than normally scheduled. The Undergraduate Research Conference this year will be on March 31, and the statewide Women’s Gender Conference will be happening in mid-April. These are free opportunities to hear professionals and students talk about their research and experiences.

Student Trustee search continues

The search for a new student trustee continues. The first screening will take place the weekend of Feb. 3. where current trustees will be reviewing applications of close to 50 students from all IU campuses, including several students from IU South Bend.
From the 50 students, 20 will be selected into the second round. Half of them will then be eliminated based on their interviews, and then our new governor will select one of the remaining 10 students to be the new student trustee. The deadline for the Governor to choose is June 30, and it is likely that the decision will not be made any earlier than that day.

Be BRAVE and help stop sexual violence

The BRAVE training series begins with several events. BRAVE is a program developed to help students learn how to stop and prevent sexual violence. Upon completion of the training, students will receive a certificate from the school that identifies them as an “advocate to stop sexual violence.” The events are listed below:
-Jan. 25 and Feb 7, 6 p.m. Movies such as ‘The Hunting Ground’ will be shown to help students take a look at sexual violence. There will be free pizza.
-Feb. 6 The Blame Game, giving students a chance to and learn about rape culture in a comfortable setting.
-April 20 Take Back the Night
-Michiana Monologues (exact date still pending)

Kid’s Day

Jan. 28 is Kid’s Day from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Grill. The theme will be “Finding Dory,” and parents along with their children are encouraged to come to campus and get in the spirit. There will be fun games and crafts the whole family can partake in, along with snacks, too.

Red and White Dance in February

The date for the Red and White Dance for IUSB students is approaching fast. Feb. 16 is just two days after Valentine’s Day, so it is the perfect chance for a little Valentine’s romance. So mark your calendars and plan to get down and boogie.
