I think that I am technically a junior. I only take classes part-time, and I transferred from Ivy Tech, so it’s a bit confusing on where I stand.

I am what you would call a non-traditional student; I am 31-years-old, married with two children, and I also work full-time at Mutual Bank. I decided after my daughter was born in 2012 that it was time to buckle down and finish what I started back at Southwestern Michigan College in 2005—getting my degree.

I am currently majoring in mass communication with a concentration on public relations and minoring in photojournalism. This, however, was not the major I initially intended on.

I had dreams of being a teacher one day, but as my children started growing, I realized that I’m pretty sure I would not have the patience needed for that profession.

I am not an incredibly interesting person by any means. I like spending time with my family, reading, watching movies and binge-watching Netflix.

My favorite things to watch are “Supernatural,” “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead.” So if you see me in class or walking on campus, feel free to stop and chat.

During my internship with The Preface, I hope to do three things: learn more about myself as a writer, see if journalism is the path I should follow and show people that it is never too late to start your college career.

It is really hard going to school with the life that I lead outside of it, but I am making it work as best as I can.
