Titan basketball teams faced Great Lakes Christian College on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Lakes travelled from Lansing, MI to play against the Titans.
For the women’s basketball game, the Lakes played their first away game under direction of their new head coach Sandi Solomon-Williams at IU South Bend.
Ices Poole-Chandler led the Lakes with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Anzhane Johnson had six points, Alisha Schneider had five points and five rebounds, and Valerie Murillo had four points, three rebounds, and five steals. Faith Bynum and Sparkle Henry each had three points, Henry also had two steals.
In a high-scoring game for the Titans, Sarah Rogian scored 12 points and had 15 rebounds. Courtney Smith scored 19 points, Brianna Blackwell scored 10 points, and each of them had four steals. Vicki Gard had 12 points and six rebounds. Erin Guzicki added 13 points to the scoreboard and Loren Vukovits had 12 points and nine rebounds. Brooke Smith added 10 points and had two steals.
The Titans had a pretty great night, winning 101-31. IU South Bend’s record after this game was a perfect 2-0, while Great Lakes Christian College lost their first game of the season, making their record 0-1.
The Titans will play several home games in the next week. Indiana Wesleyan University will travel to play IU South Bend in the Student Activities Center on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1:00 p.m. Then, the Titans will face hometown rival Bethel College at home on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7:00 p.m. The University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team will play the Titans on Thursday, Nov. 12. The last home game of the week will be Saturday, Nov. 12, against Wright-State Lake.
The Great Lakes Christian College men’s basketball team also travelled to IU South Bend to face the Titans. This team also played their first away game with a new head coach, Marc Mellor.
Joey Steiner led the Lakes with the game-high 21 points. Lance Adams scored 14 points and had four steals. James White scored eight points and had two steals. Romondo Ray had eight points, 11 rebounds, and two steals. Tishaun Cooper added seven points and four rebounds. Justin Knightendale scored five points and had two rebounds.
For the Titans, Jeremy Jones led with 18 points. Joe Bannister added 15 points to the board and had five rebounds. Jordan Vedder scored 15 points and had five rebounds and three steals. Avery Harmon had 14 points and stole the ball three times. T.J. Benner had 10 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Jackson Edwards had seven points and four steals. Taylor Brooks and Myluv Sutton each scored six points, Sutton added six rebounds.
IU South Bend won the match by over 30 points, with a final score of 108-73. After this game, the Titans were 2-0 on the season. The Lakes record was brought to 0-1.
The Titans’ next home game will be on Friday, Nov. 4, against University of Akron Wayne College at 7 p.m. IU South Bend students can get into the game for free with student ID. A video recap of this game will be available at IUSBPreface.net.
