The Governors State University Jaguars came to face off against the IU South Bend Titans on Sept. 8. The team travelled from University Park, Ill., which is about 95 miles from IUSB.

In the end, IUSB took all three sets. The Titans won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-16, and the third was a close 29-27. This win only took them just over an hour, as opposed to the usual two-hour timespan.

Senior Sierra Conklin had 13 kills and 15 digs. Junior Ashley McClintock had 10 kills and two digs. Junior Janelle Rehlander had 17 kills. Sophomore Sarah Allison added 11 kills. Junior Jadalyn Tindall had seven digs, while sophomore Morgan Fleming had six kills. Overall, the Titans had 55 digs and 50 kills throughout the game.

For the Jaguars, senior Hayley Wacker led the team with 13 kills and 13 digs. Senior Ashley Pickert had 12 kills and two digs. Sophomore Erika Halverson had five kills and 10 digs. Junior Anastasija Jurisic had nine digs and one kill. Sophomore Milica Maras had six digs and two kills, and senior Lizette Gonzalez added five digs. The Jaguars had 45 digs and 36 kills overall, but it wasn’t enough to lead them to victory.

This win improved IUSB’s record to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Governors State is 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the CCAC. This season is their first with Head Coach Pedro Gonzales and Assistant Coach Dean Jennings.

The Titans’ next game will be the two-day Clarke University Tournament. On Sept. 16, they play Valley City State University at 3 p.m. and Clarke University at 7 p.m. On Sept. 17, IUSB will take on Missouri Valley College at 1 p.m. and Waldorf University at 5 p.m.

Following the tournament, the Titans will travel to Calumet College of St. Joseph on Sept. 20. The next home game of the month—also the last—will be Sept. 22 against Trinity Christian College.
