IU South Bend’s volleyball team kicked off the month of September with their second home game of the season: a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup against the Aquinas College Saints, who travelled all the way from Grand Rapids, Mich., to play against the Titans.

Even though the Titans put up a fight, the Saints pulled through to win three sets to two.

IUSB started off strong and took the first set 25-17, fell by nine points in the second, 25-16, and came back to win the third set 25-19. Aquinas took the final two sets: the fourth 25-19 and the fifth only by two points, 16-14.

The Titan women played a strong game. Junior Ashley McClintock had the game-high 18 kills and 11 digs. Senior Sierra Conklin had 17 digs and 16 kills. Junior Janelle Rehlander and senior Jenny Stahl both had 14 digs. Sophomores Sarah Allison and Morgan Fleming both had six kills. Sophomore Leah Wimmer had 34 assists and 10 digs, while junior Jadalyn Tindall had 12 assists.

For the Saints, Senior Katlyn Agren had the game-high 18 digs. Senior Brooke Wieland had 43 assists and she also had 10 digs. Senior Micaela Hazen had 15 kills and 13 digs, sophomore Kristen Danielson had 14 kills, and senior Michaela Ryan had 12 kills. Sophomore Dayna Wood had 10 digs and sophomore Marisa Spetoskey had seven digs.

This loss brought the Titans’ record to 4-3. This game made the Saints 5-0 on the season, their first with new head coach Rick Schroeder.

The team from Governors State University will enter Titan territory on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Student Activities Center. On Sept. 10, the Titans will travel to IU Northwest to play against IU Kokomo and IU Northwest in a tri-meet. After that matchup, the team will return home on Sept. 13 to play University of St. Francis. Students can get in to all home games for free with their student IDs.

The Saints play the Concordia University Cardinals on Sept. 7 in their first home game of the season. They will travel to play Lourdes University on Sept. 9.
