I am new to The Preface. I joined as a staff writer this semester and was super excited. I love writing and getting to know people. I want to travel the world and learn about people’s lives.
I admit, interviewing and approaching strangers was frightening in the beginning, but it was also exciting. After completing every story for this semester’s paper I have been filled with the joy of accomplishment.
I like to learn what makes each person unique. I feel that every person has a story to tell, and I want to be the one to help get it out there.
I am passionate about writing music and poetry, and I have dreams of writing some best-selling novels someday based on my life and the people I’ve met along the way.
For a while I was undecided about my major. I began pursuing the medical field, tried theatre and now I am certain and confident in my major of choice, mass communication with a concentration on journalism. I love acting and after watching the movie “Love Jones” I was also inspired to learn the art of photography.
My sister bought me a camera for my twenty-second birthday before I moved to Missouri. Frequently and spontaneously, I would find myself taking pictures of any and everything such as cows on a farm, the sky and any piece of land or property that carried a spirit, looked interesting and important.
Since being a student at IU, I have published two photography books, one capturing abandoned houses in South Bend, titled “Of Beauty and Ruin,” and the other named “Beauty in the Sky,” capturing beautiful landscapes at Silver Beach in Saint Joseph, Mich., near where I grew up.
I have two minors, one in theatre and one in photojournalism, and I currently work as a licensed medical massage technician.
