Many small businesses have found their homes near IU South Bends’s campus, specifically along Mishawka Avenue. If you take the avenue either to or from school, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed the neon-clothed mannequin outside one of the storefronts.
A new resale and repurpose store located at 2232 Mishawaka Avenue, Uniquely Yours, opened its doors early last month. They’re open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are closed Sunday and Monday.
“There’s nothing else like it on the avenue,” said Tina Philson, co-owner of Uniquely Yours. “We’re pretty much the only store like this in the immediate area.”
Philson and her business partner, Stephanie Campbell, had been looking for building space since January and eventually found the “perfect” spot in the beginning of February. According to Campbell, River Park is the absolute perfect area and neighborhood for their type of business.
“We put in a lot of work to see our needs and we’re really happy with the way everything has turned out,” said Cambell.
Before moving their merchandise into the store, some construction work was needed, including moving walls to create an open concept.
During this year’s “River Park Days” celebration on May 21, Campbell and Philson will be giving away free doughnuts, coffee and hot dogs in an attempt to represent their hospitality and care of the community.
Further, “if you donate food you’ll get 10 percent off a purchase of 5 dollars or more,” said Campbell. The food they collect is donated to local charities.
When it comes to prices, the owners do not mind negotiating. “We like to bargain with our customers. It’s fun and we want to make sure everyone feels they paid a fair price,” said Philson. They plan on running specials and sales at the end of every month.
