I am a new writer for The Preface staff for the 2016 spring semester. I was born and raised in La Porte, Indiana.
I have recently relocated to River Crossing Campus Housing here at IU South Bend, but last semester I was attending college at Purdue North Central (PNC), a small commuter campus in the middle of nowhere.
I started off as an elementary education major, but I really wasn’t enjoying my courses. After thinking critically about what I wanted to do with my life, I decided to major in social work because I really love helping people.
Unfortunately, social work was not an accredited degree program at PNC and would have hurt me more than helped me in the long run when going to get my master’s degree, so I decided to apply at Indiana University South Bend.
So far, my experience at IUSB has been wonderful, and I have met a lot of friendly people. Since joining The Preface, it has been really neat to get back to my writing roots. I was on my high school newspaper’s staff for three years as a writer, and I worked briefly for an online newspaper shortly after graduation.
When I am not in class or working at Marco’s Pizza, I enjoy writing for The Preface, doing adventurous things like hiking or mountain biking, painting, cooking and spending time with my friends, family and two beagles.
