A big hello to the IU South Bend community! I’m Emily Yussum, and I’m a new intern and staff writer for the Preface.
Though I am from the Michiana community, I’m still new to the South Bend area. There are so many opportunities and great shopping in the area that I feel like it’s become my second home already.
Like many of the students I’ve gotten to know over the years, I stumbled into college, not 100 percent sure what I wanted to focus on. After my first semester here, I realized I enjoyed writing essays. Call me crazy. I enjoy the very thing college students dread the most next to finals.
Since then, I’ve declared my major in journalism, topped off with a minor in photography to appease my inner creative mindset. If all goes and ends well, I plan to graduate in December 2016 with that fancy paper in my hands and hopefully an idea or two of where to put my degree to good use.
I plan on getting into the editing business, with the hopes of working my way into being an editor for a publishing house, if not a news outlet. But before that, I definitely plan on doing a bit of traveling, maybe crossing off some sights from my bucket list. I hear the British Isles are quite nice this time of year.
I look forward to learning much with my fellow students at The Preface and bringing news to the IUSB campus and community. If you see me around with my ears plugged in or a camera in front of my face here on campus, feel free to give a warm greeting!
