The Black Student Union and Student Housing are co-sponsoring Open Mic Night From 7 to 9 p.m. December 2 in the River Crossing Student Housing Community Building.

“Students can showcase acoustic singing. Maybe someone from the arts can do a monologue, acting, instruments or others,” BSU president Caderia Strickland said. “It’s free to all IUSB students, regular commuters, and residents at student housing.”

Faculty and staff are also invited, and students are permitted to bring a guest who does not attend the school, Strickland said.

People can sign up to perform ahead of time if they want to,” Michelle Hairston academic advisor to the BSU said. “They can have something planned ahead of time, or they can do something on the spot.”

To sign up in advance, contact Strickland at cadstric@iusb.edu.

The event will offer refreshments such as cookies and pretzels, Strickland said.

“We want everyone to showcase their talents, and give everyone the chance to exercise and enjoy themselves right before finals get intense,” Strickland said.

The goal of the event is to get more students mingling, Hairston said. It also will make students aware that BSU and student housing events are open to all students.

“This one [event] is to get BSU and to work together more. To get more people participating with events especially in housing,” Hairston said.
BSU and student housing recently cosponsored the Halloween dance on campus. BSU also cosponsored an open mic night with the Civil Rights Heritage Center.
