Can we all just take a second and give a little love to Thanksgiving?
The fall holidays are upon us in all their glory. Society is quick to celebrate Halloween, and Thanksgiving is often glossed right over to get to Christmas.
All the hype and elation that surrounds Halloween can be compared to that which surrounds the first-born child in a family. Everyone gets all excited and goes all out with costumes and festivities. The Halloween holiday gets a lot of attention, much like the first-born.
Then there’s Christmas. Everyone loves Christmas. Society oohs and ahs over it. Christmas is many people’s favorite holiday; they wait all year for it to come back around. The attention and love Christmas gets is similar to that of the baby of the family.
But what about Thanksgiving? The poor, middle holiday, Thanksgiving gets forgotten and over looked, much like the middle child in a family. But doesn’t Thanksgiving have so much to offer?
This holiday is dedicated to giving thanks for what we have and eating massive amounts of wonderful food. There is even an epic parade.
It’s true, it sits there quietly without the flash and pizazz of Halloween or Christmas, but Thanksgiving gives us the opportunity to relax, chill and just be content for a second, to reflect on what is important and be happy with what we have. It doesn’t demand presents like Christmas, and it isn’t a show-off like Halloween.
This year, let’s all take a second to slow down, keep those Christmas decorations in storage a bit longer, and give a little love to Thanksgiving, the easy-going, forgotten middle holiday.
