Robert Sims, guest masterclass and workshop teacher, performer, and vocalist has been leading students from IU South Bend and Notre Dame into crafting better stage presence and vocal techniques in preparation for their upcoming performance.
Sims won the Gold Medal in the American Traditions Competition, and is known for performing in over 150 recitals in the United States.
Thirteen students from IUSB and Notre Dame will be showcased in the event.
“The event is being held to provide one-on-one coaching sessions for students in order to help them grow under the tutelage of a renowned performer,” said Neil King, communication specialist for the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts, in an email. “This recital will give our students the opportunity to show the public what they have learned as well as a unique opportunity to display their talents to someone as esteemed as Sims.”
The students will be performing pieces from Mozart, Richard Strauss, Giuseppe Sarti, Gaetano Donizetti, Bellini Vincenzo, Giuseppe Verdi and Christop Willibald Gluck, said King.
The IU South Bend Vocal Institute will perform segments of classic operas and musicals at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall in Northside Hall.
Tickets are free to children and students with a valid student ID. Tickets for nonstudents are available in advance for $3 or $5 the day of the show.
