A man who entered the Student Activities Center moments after an emergency fall on Monday, Oct. 12, saw a disturbing scene.

Junior business major Josef Jaworski said he saw a young woman with black hair, around 5’ 5”, lying on the gym floor crying when he arrived at the SAC around noon and heard a man yell for help.

“I ran over to him, and I saw her on the ground on the gym. There wasn’t any blood around her or anything like that,” he said. “She was crying the whole time. It looked like she landed shoulder-first, on her side. She could move all of her limbs and stuff like that.”

South Bend emergency services responded at about 11:34 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, to the SAC at 941 S. 20th St., where they recorded an injury as a result of a 20-foot fall, according to dispatch records from the South Bend Fire Department.

Jaworski said, when they arrived, paramedics removed students from the scene. At that time, the injured woman was still distraught.

“She just cried the entire time,” he said.

Lieutenant Morris DeGeyter from the IU Police Department said an investigation is ongoing.
