Without fail, the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts makes extraordinary efforts to keep IU South Bend students and staff entertained, as well as members of the surrounding community. This week there are quite a few events and performances occurring, including the R & R (Ruthmere and Raclin) Series: “Beauties, Beasts, and Babes,” the “Street Photography in Florence” Gallery Talk, “Lieder Abend (Evening Of Song),” and the IUSB Music Faculty Recital.
The R & R Series: “Beauties, Beasts, and Babes” will feature soprano singer Jessica McCormack and guest pianist Amanda Johnson as they perform pieces by female composers.
McCormack is the head of Voice Studies at IU South Bend.
“I like the intimate recital setting of the R & R series,” said McCormack. “Since the performance hall is completely lit, the performers are able to interact more easily with the audience.”
McCormack was the first person to pitch the idea of the R & R Series.
The “Street Photography in Florence” Exhibition presents the work of 20 students who traveled to Florence, Italy, during summer 2015 to study art and photography.
The gallery talk will take place this week, but the exhibition is open until February of 2016.
The voice studios at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts are joining together to present “Lieder Abend” (Evening of Song). This recital will feature Schumann’s Liederkreis cycles, Op. 24 and Op. 39 in collaboration with voice students from Stepehen Lancaster’s studio at the University of Notre Dame.
The Faculty Music Recital will feature performances from IUSB faculty members, including: Deb Inglefield, Jameson Cooper, Mariah Boucher, Ketevan Badridze, Jessica McCormack and Julie Reid.
