What year are you in school, and what are you studying? I’m a senior. I’ll be done in May. My major is graphic design, and I’m minoring in photography.
What would you like to do with your degree in the marketplace? I really wanted to do graphic design in animation. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was my favorite movie growing up. I wanted to do that when I was older. Tim Burton is my favorite person. When I started here and as I began working toward my degree, I was enrolled in a typography class. I realized I really love fonts and type. I want to combine that passion with animation. I’d like to design my own fonts and title sequences.
Tell our readers more about when you started at Titan Productions and what you do there. I started my sophomore year. I’ve been working with them for three years now. I was a volunteer when I began. I was then the marketing coordinator and now I am the executive producer. My job is to make sure that everything runs well and is coming together the way it should. I do a lot of paperwork. I collaborate with a lot of other people on campus to organize events and productions with other departments.
Any big events coming up that Titan Productions is sponsoring? April 9 at 8 p.m., we have Daniel Martin coming. He is an insane stunt guy, he also does magic, hypnosis, sarcastic improv, he does it all. April 29, the last day of classes, we are having a river fest. It will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. we’ll have glow in the dark laser tag. We’re hoping to get a few giant hamster balls for people to race around in on campus. There will be bands playing all day and lots of food.
What is your dream job? My dream job would be to make art for myself. If I could just travel and use a studio, dark room and print lab that would be great. If I could get paid to bungee jump and take photos of it that would be a dream. As far as a real job, I would say working in graphic design or animation for DreamWorks, Pixar or Disney. I would love to work in another country as well.
What are you reading, listening to and watching right now? I am reading “Sacre Bleu,” by Christopher Moore. It’s a story about how Van Gogh didn’t commit suicide but was actually murdered by this creepy little color man. It’s really interesting. I just went to a “Walk the Moon” concert. The Griswolds opened for them. I listen to a lot of Indie. On any given day, I take my phone and I use the 8tracks app, select upbeat indie songs and let that playlist go. I watch a lot of Netflix. I’ve seen everything from “30 Rock” to “Parks and Recreation” to “Dr. Who” and “Sherlock.” I just finished a show called “Black Mirror.” It was super fantastic. I highly recommend it. Right now, I’m watching “House of Cards.”
What words of wisdom do you have for our student readers? The most important thing you can do, at any stage in college, is don’t let every task and assignment feel like it’s the end of the world. With every paper, every project, the deadlines come quick, and it seems like the end of the world trying to get it done and pass. People get so stressed and I’m here to tell you, you’re going to make it through. No matter how big the problem, or if you fail a test or do poorly on a project, you’re going to move past it and you’ll become a stronger person in the process.
