Dear Titan,
Are you good with presents? I have no idea what to get my mom for her birthday. She always hates what I get her, and I don’t have a lot of extra cash.

Dear Erick_91,
You are in good hands. I can be very creative when it comes to gift giving. I am sure your mom does not hate the previous gifts you have given her, because everyone likes to know someone is thinking of them. However, gift giving can say a lot about you as well as what you think of the other person. If they do not receive a gift that seems to fit their personality or interests they might not be too enthusiastic when receiving it.
I know you are on a tight budget, but buying something cheap just to buy her something is not the way to your mother’s heart. Here are some inexpensive, crafty, thoughtful gifts any mother should love.
- Legacy Box
If your mom is anything like mine, she has probably kept every glitter-glued, finger-painted, macaroni necklace project you have made over the years. Decorate a shoebox and fill it with any nostalgic projects, photos and home videos. You can spend the evening going through it with her, or tell her to save it for a rainy day when she needs a pick-me-up.
- Trip Down Memory Lane
Everyone loves a vacation, and this one is sure to fit your budget. If time does not allow for hunting down old projects, photos and videos, buy a box of envelopes and track down a suitcase. Write a short note including a memory (ideally a fond one) that you have of your mother. For instance, if she is turning 50, you will need to think of 50 memories and have 50 envelopes ready to pack in your suitcase for your trip down memory lane.
- Spa Kit
Birthdays can become all the more stressful as we age. Your mom might just appreciate a night to herself to relax and celebrate the accomplishments and memories she has made as a mother over the years. A spa kit is a perfect cure for the stress of aging and can be feasible on a tight budget. All you’ll need is a reasonably priced bottle of wine, a bath bomb and a scented candle. Include a note stating you appreciate all the hard work she does and how much she deserves some relaxation for her birthday, and this gift is sure to go from girly to meaningful.
Best,
Titan
