As everyone settles into classes and works to fulfill university demands, those perfect summer days on the beach start to become no more than a faint memory. However, that is no reason to ditch the workout routines or to kick the healthy lifestyle. Especially, since IU South Bend host group fitness classes in the SAC to support healthy living.
“A person who leads an active life and works-out daily will have more energy,” says Steven Vigue, SAC staff member.
Vigue believes the health benefits of working out could have positive impacts on student efficiency and stress reduction. These positive impacts are just a fraction of the potential benefits that people could gain from working out, which make the group fitness classes all the more appealing.
Participation in these classes is free until Sep. 12. After the promotion, each class will cost $2 for students and faculty and $5 for guests. Another way to save is by purchasing 10 classes and receiving the 11th class for free. There is also the option of buying a fitness pass at $60, which allows you unlimited access to any session until June 31, 2015.
This semester’s group fitness classes runs from Aug. 25- Dec. 13.. They are offered Monday-Sunday at alternating times, so it is best to check the schedule under the SAC on the IU South Bend homepage or directly in the SAC.
The classes provided are designed to fulfill just about any fitness desire. There’s hatha and restorative yoga for those who value balance and relaxation. Yoga is also good for participants that are seeking a low-impact workout. Cycle and strength classes focus on cardio and strength to provide the best of both workout worlds. The high energy, intense workout that Zumba provides is a sure way to burn calories and build lasting stamina. Jessica Diaz, Zumba instructor, shares that the class features Latin-themed music with lunges and squats. Diaz promises that the class will be a lot of fun and easy to catch on to.
The SAC also features a weight room, track and other exercise amenities, creating a desirable workout atmosphere for anyone. All of the options and accommodations provided by the SAC make it possible to keep up with summer exercise routines.
The area is open, Mon.-Thur., 6:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; Fri., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sat., 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; and Sun., 1-5 p.m.
