Artists of Michiana unite at the State Theater for the 2nd annual Circus of Art

Circus of ArtCircus of Art is an all-ages, community-wide event organized, hosted and ran by local artists according to creative director for the event, Julian Alcantar.

Alcantar said he believes there is an artist Renaissance movement in South Bend and that this event will showcase that movement by bringing people together through local art.

Circus of Art will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the State Theater in downtown South Bend.

“It is our vision to produce a show where our community can enjoy performances by artists in an intimate and supportive atmosphere while providing an artist’s market where our creations are focused in the further development of our culture,” said Alcantar.

The unique art and community-focused fair’s proceeds will benefit the Healthy Community Initiative of St. Joseph County and participating artists.

“There will be a visual gallery by underground artists from across the region including painters, photographers, craft makers, print makers, etc. There will be live music performances and other art performances such dancing, acting, poetry, etc. We’ll also be doing a film screening by Chicago artists,” Alcantar said.

He said additionally there will be kid-focused entrainment as well such as a petting zoo, pony rides, bounce house, piñatas, balloon artists, magicians, fire show, etc.

Alcantar said some of their sponsors include South Bend Media, Healthy Community Initiative of St. Joseph Ct, and The State.

Alcantar said he “believes in the artistic talent South Bend has to offer,” and wants to work in collaboration with as many creative minds as possible “to really create the changes we want to see.”

This year’s theme is “medieval renaissance.” Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Children 10 and under get in free. For more information go to the Circus of Art official website at www.circusoa.com.

“We are bringing together a vast mix of arts culture that everyone can gain knowledge from,” said Alcantar.
