With negotiations still underway, a deal has yet to be reached in IU South Bend’s proposed acquisition of the former Club Landing property located southwest of campus at 1717 Lincolnway East.

According to the St. Joseph County Assessor’s records, the riverfront property is currently valued at an estimated $394,100.

The IU Foundation, a not-for-profit donor-supported corporation, is the designated purchaser of the property presently owned by Playland Park Inc. A quit claim deed was filed March 19 on behalf of the family estate in possession of the land and transferred to the Playland Park Inc. business entity, which is owned by the same family, according to the St. Joseph County Recorder’s Office.

A quit claim deed is a written legal document that transfers the title of real property, while offering no warranties or guarantees that the owner has good title or ownership, but simply transfers whatever interest exists when the deed is executed. This is perceived as the first step in initiating the land purchase.

The Preface will stay updated on further developments.
