Staff Profile: Bekka Oxley

Staff Profile- HeadshotHey everyone! My name is Bekka and I’m an intern this semester at The Preface. I’m a 21-year-old senior majoring in mass communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in dance.

It seems like I’m involved in a lot of things on campus, so if I look familiar to you, I probably am.

In addition to writing for The Preface, I am also a member of Theta Phi Alpha and IUSB’s Tap Kickline (you’ve probably seen my face on Teddy Bear Concert posters around Christmas time). I was also involved in IUSB’s Dance Company for a year.

I currently work at Putt Putt Golf and Games and attend St. Mark Missionary Church in Mishawaka, so you might recognize me from those places as well.

I have the best family in the world. I am the youngest of my seven siblings (four sisters and three brothers), but it would take about three more paragraphs to explain the bloodlines so we’re just not going to go there.

I like to do a lot of things with my spare time. Besides dancing and writing, I love to read. Nicholas Sparks will forever and always be my favorite author. I also love anything that has to do with the outdoors. Hiking, biking, camping, riding horses, beaching. I’ll pretty much do it all.

My friends are basically the bomb dot com and I don’t know what I’d do without them. I’m also in love with country music and pizza.

After I graduate, I know I’m probably going to stay in the area, but I’m not quite sure where I’ll end up or what I’ll be doing. I have so many things I want to do with my life that I can’t make up my mind. I’ll more than likely end up writing for a newspaper or magazine after graduation. I probably won’t want to do that for the rest of my life, so here are a few grand plans I’ve thought up, ranging from not-so-crazy to fairly far-fetched: eventually become an editor-in-chief, write a book, be a traveling journalist, be a dance critic, become a professional dancer, move to New York and become a Rockette.

I’m a really easy-going person, so if you see me on campus, don’t be afraid to say hello! I love meeting new people.
