IU South Bend Wind Ensemble
Featuring the Twin Cities Community Band
On Thursday, Nov. 14 beginning at 7:30 p.m., the IUSB Wind Ensemble will be performing classical masterpieces to military marches. The ensemble, directed by Ken Douglas, will share the stage with the Twin Cities Community Band. Students with a valid ID get a free ticket. Adult tickets are $7 in advance and $9 at the door. Ivy Tech Poetry Slam
“The House on Mango Street”
Barnes & Noble has teamed up with Ivy Tech’s “One Book, One Campus” program featuring the bestselling book “The House on Mango Street” by Sandra Cisneros. The event will be held Friday, Nov. 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Ivy Tech in South Bend. There will be live music, food and prizes. This free event is for adults 18 and older. Finding Peace in Difficult Times
Free public talk on Buddhist meditation
Gen Dorje, the residential teacher at Vajrayana Kadampa Buddhist Center in Chicago, will give a talk about the nature of compassion for ourselves and all living beings. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Potawatomi Conservatories located at Potawatomi Park in South Bend. Indie/Pop show at LangLab
SXSW 2013 band Ace Reporter is touring in support of their debut LP “Yearling.” The disc features performances by drummer Aaron Steele and guitarist Chris Kuklis and was engineered and mixed by Chris Grainger (Wilco, Switchfoot). The performance will be held at LangLab in South Bend on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. There is a $10 cover charge. For more information visit www.langlabsb.com.
