The O: drive is no more. The O: drive was officially retired Tuesday, Oct. 1, and will no longer be accessible.
This plan has been part of an ongoing project to transition to a new system of online data storage and file sharing.
Box.iu.edu, or the Box, will now be used in place of the O: drive. Box provides free and secure university-wide data storage service and collaboration tools.
“The 50 GB storage in Box that can be accessed from anywhere on any device, is a great improvement over the O: drive which offered only 200 MB,” said Beverly Church, IT Executive Director for University Information Technology Services at IU South Bend. “You can also share files with fellow students when working on group projects.”
All current IU students, faculty and staff are eligible for a Box account.
“Students can set up Box in the Cloud Storage Configurator so they can easily access it when using IUanyWare on any device, or when using computers in the STCs and classroom labs,” Church said.
Church’s department encourages students to explore the new service. They also caution not to store any data considered “restricted” or “critical.”
