Recent fires in Los Angeles have caused devastation in California, destroying homes, communities and businesses. The two largest, the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, are still active and growing and have already destroyed hundreds of homes and acres of land. Winds are picking up in the area, and evacuation warnings are still in place.
The fires have claimed at least 29 lives, with more than a dozen people still unaccounted for.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a $2.5 billion relief package to support wildfire response and recovery effects in Los Angeles. Many celebrities have donated millions of dollars to show support and help with the wildfire relief efforts for those who lost their homes and organizations.
Other people from across the country are donating items for victims like clothes, food and supplies to help them find stability. There are a few ways that you can help, too, if you are interested.
While it may be difficult to foster a pet from a displaced family, you can donate money or animal food to LA animal services at laanimalservices.com/palisades-fire.
You can also donate to the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund. GoFundMe is also hosting a relief fundraiser with a goal of $8 million and have raised over $5 million so far. In addition, gofundme.com has a wide range of donation opportunities for individual families affected by the fires.
