Filling the old Hammes Bookstore location in Northside Hall, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship program launched in February. After months of development, the CIE has opened applications for programs where students can participate in hands-on workshops and make connections to get advice on their entrepreneurial journey.
The CIE’s multiple programs serve different purposes.
The Entrepreneurship Student Ambassadors Program selects Titans of Innovation, students who will provide peer support and mentorship and build networks with students, faculty and industry leaders. They are the main people to organize and lead entrepreneurial events. This is a paid position offering three to 10 hours per week.
The second group is the Entrepreneurship Certificate Program where students can learn entrepreneurial skills through workshops and experiential learning, including a capstone project, a summer internship or job shadowing. Workshops are offered in-person and online on Fridays and range from six to nine hours each across multiple sessions.
Finally, the Entrepreneurship Club is open to all students, even if they are not part of another Innovation and Entrepreneurship program. The officers of the club are the Titans of Innovation student ambassadors.
CIE Director Modupe Adeoye said she wants students to experience both growing their critical thinking skills and managing risks. She said she wants participants to feel proud of what they have accomplished in the program and confident to make a business plan no matter their background.
“We are looking for students who are problem solvers, that see the worth of time to be a part of this program,” Adeoye said. “I offered to any students on campus, with any backgrounds, to join any three programs we have offered to help in your journey.”
The physical location for the CIE will open next fall, but registration is open now for all students.
