After a period of inactivity, the Muslim Student Association plans to host Muslim cultural activities this semester, welcoming any students or faculty who are interested to join or just have fun.
The MSA provides a sense of community and belonging for Muslim students, offering a space where they can connect, share experiences and support each other. They have religious support, educational programs, social activities, advocacy, outreach and support services.
MSA President David Saleh said, “There is a Muslim presence on campus that are interested in coming together to impact their local community.”
He shared the club’s plans for the fall semester, including a religious discussion based on the violence in Israel and Palestine, partnership with other clubs, volunteering opportunities and an end-of-semester fundraiser.
In the spring, Saleh said the club plans to host a fundraiser for Palestinians in Gaza and take a trip to the Islamic Society of Michiana. They also look forward to Ramadan, a holy month in Islam, during which they will establish prayer rooms for students, hold a community feast and give an informational presentation about the religion.
Non-Muslim students can get involved with the MSA in several meaningful ways. They can attend events and join activities to learn more about Islam and meet new people with different backgrounds. They are welcome to join discussions and lectures organized by MSA so they can exchange ideas and provide a platform of learning.
Saleh said students can get involved in advocacy and awareness campaigns that the MSA might be running and show respect for the religious practices and cultural traditions of Muslim students, taking the opportunity to learn about their faith and customs in an open-minded manner.
