MEET THE SGA! The Student Government Association gets together for a group photo after their first meeting of the semester.

This Friday, Aug. 30, the Student Government Association held their first meeting of the new semester. Members of the SGA established that there will be open office hours this semester for students to speak with student government representatives about concerns and grievances; students can find the open hours for the week in the Daily Titan.
President Garner and Vice President Saleh commemorated Senator Cunningham with this week’s senator shout out. Additionally, the executives announced that Senator Representing the College of Arts and Sciences, Connor Prout, as well as Secretary Lauren Avery, have stepped down from their positions in the SGA this year.
While some members were lost, the SGA also appointed new justices to the judicial branch. Accounting major Jameson Davenport was appointed as associate justice and also put in charge of the Future Titan Ingenuity Fund. Roshna Mishra, sophomore criminal justice major, was also appointed justice.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kory Vitangeli reminded students about her weekly emails to all students, which include a variety of events that students may participate in.
Addressing the highly controversial Expressive Activity Policy recently put in place across all IU campuses, President Garner and senators Laney and Moody submitted a resolution, which is to be voted on next week (see page # for more information on the Expressive Activity Policy).
The gist of the resolution is that SGA will work with the policy in the way they think best suits IU South Bend. Due to the vagueness of the policy, SGA hopes to employ an “ad hoc committee” to review the policy and add some clarity with their implementation of the policy on campus.
The SGA meets every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in SAC 206 or 225. Meetings are open to the public and students are encouraged to attend.
