As Election Day creeps up, the status of presidential candidates changes as well. Here is an update on presidential candidates since our last article.
Two candidates dropped out of the race. Republican candidate Ron DeSantis dropped out on Jan. 21 and Democratic candidate Marianne Williamson dropped out on Feb. 7.
So far, Donald Trump and Joe Biden are winning in each of their races. As of Feb. 9, Trump has 63 delegates and Biden has 91 delegates. Republican candidate Nikki Haley has 17 delegates and Democratic candidate Dean Phillips has 0 delegates.
As Trump is on trial for multiple cases (the federal 2020 election, E. Jean Carrol’s second defamation, Georgia’s 2020 election, New York civic fraud, Manhattan hush-money and federal classified documents), that could determine if he is allowed to run for president on Election Day. Right now, there is one Supreme Court case involving Trump: Colorado vs Trump. Depending on the result of this case, states would be allowed to bar Trump from the election. Trump also has the opportunity to gain immunity from his criminal cases, but he will need to talk to the Supreme Court to get it approved.
There is a secret Republican candidate: Ryan Binkley. Binkley is a businessman and pastor from Texas. He launched his campaign on April 23, 2023. He was second place in the Nevada Republican caucus, gaining 0.9% of the vote.
